Anticipate two major changes for the season at three Northern Sacramento Valley refuge areas. The lottery system at Colusa, Sacramento, and Delevan has changed. Hunters must make a choice and will be able to enter only one lottery. Previously, hunters could enter the lottery at Colusa and at either Sacramento or Delevan, giving them two chances. Now, they must pick only one choice. Gates at all four federal refuges will open at 6:00 PM on Tuesday and Friday Nights, instead of 4:00 PM. Hunters will be able to enter the lottery between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM.
Under the new system, hunters will be competing only with hunters at the same refuge location and their number is going to have much more meaning and their chances of getting on the refuge will be increased. The whole idea behind this change is to spread opportunity and access to these fine refuges, according to a refuge spokesperson.
